We are not a chain and cater to all children and their unique temperaments. Narelle and David own and run Creative Minds, alongside teachers who've been here 10–18 years.

Large backyard with a children’s garden

Rare in high-density Auckland. Vegetables go straight from garden to kitchen.

Community connections

We value partnering with whanau and the local community. We cherish these opportunities to foster long-lasting relationships.

Creative, hands-on play

Fostering creative and curious minds and a love of the natural world. We often use natural resources in our art and learning, and lay the foundation for school.

Healthy fresh meals cooked on site

Our in-house cook and our garden, working together.

Built on Te Whāriki curriculum

New Zealand's national curriculum framework, woven into every day. A learning partnership between teachers, parents, and whānau.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Creative Minds a boutique childcare centre in Henderson?

We're small, family-run, and intentionally so. David and Narelle own and run the centre alongside a team of qualified teachers — several of whom have been here for over 15 years. That stability means your child is genuinely known: not just by their primary teacher, but by everyone. It's the opposite of the big-chain model, and parents tell us it's the first thing they notice when they walk in.

How does Creative Minds implement the Te Whāriki curriculum?

Te Whāriki is New Zealand's national early childhood curriculum, and it underpins everything we do. In practice that means a learning partnership between teachers, parents, and whānau — where each child's interests, culture, and pace of learning shape the day. Our teachers plan around the four core principles of Te Whāriki (whakamana, kotahitanga, whānau tangata, and ngā hononga) and document each child's progress so you can see exactly how they're developing.

Does Creative Minds provide healthy meals for children?

Yes — every breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea is cooked fresh on site, with vegetables from our own children's garden whenever they're in season. Children eat together as a group, which builds social skills and turns mealtimes into a genuine part of the day rather than just refuelling. Allergies, halal, vegetarian, and other dietary needs are handled individually at no extra cost. You can see our full approach to meals here.

Do you accept the 20 hours ECE subsidy and WINZ childcare subsidies?

Yes, we accept both. The 20 Hours ECE subsidy is available for all children aged three to five and covers up to 20 hours of free early childhood education per week. We're also a registered WINZ supplier, so families receiving the Childcare Subsidy or OSCAR Subsidy can use those payments directly with us. On top of that, we offer a 10% sibling discount for families with more than one child enrolled. Get in touch and we can walk you through exactly what you'd pay.
